Ceramic & Resin

Jinhyeong Ju

Jinhyeong’s work begins with the visual exploration of time, change, and traces through the fusion of broken clay fragments and resin. While delving into claywork, he began studying the unique properties of these two materials by filling fractured spaces with resin. Over time, the focus shifted from simply filling broken or empty spaces to emphasizing the fragments themselves.

Broken clay fragments are often considered weak, lacking cohesion, and discarded as useless material. However, when these fragments are combined with the cohesive and transparent qualities of resin, the contrasting materials merge to create new shapes and layers. In particular, by maintaining consistent intervals during the layering process, the fragments appear to float, resulting in a distinct texture and a visually captivating effect.

Mr.Ju’s work demonstrates that even shattered and functionally lost fragments can be reimagined as materials with new potential. Through the combination of resin and fragments, he explores fresh visual expressions and sculptural possibilities, aiming to convey the harmony and transformation that emerge from the interplay of these materials.
