Exploring the Dual Nature of Time in Nature

Time encompasses a vast concept that can be viewed through two main perspectives: linear and cyclical. Linear time flows from past to present to future, with a defined beginning and end. Cyclical time, on the other hand, is continuous and repetitive, like the rising and setting of the sun or the changing seasons. Dasom Park believes time in nature embodies both perspectives—life’s birth and death reflect linear time, while the cycles of the sun, moon, and seasons signify the cyclical.

In nature, fleeting moments often go unnoticed, yet their accumulation reveals the flow of time. Natural phenomena like weathering and erosion, which carve rocks, cliffs, and canyons, offer visible evidence of time’s passage. Through her work, Ms. Park aims to depict these traces of time in nature by carving textures that mimic the gradual transformations shaped by wind and water.
